Brooke Taeckens

Hi everyone! I’m Brooke, a licensed social worker with a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Chicago. I specialize in working with older children, adolescents, and college-aged students. I approach therapy through connection, empathy, and authenticity. I use evidence-based modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients build a life worth living. While I draw from evidence-based modalities, I believe effective change begins with the therapeutic relationship. My approach to therapy is grounded in connection, empathy, and authenticity, while also challenging clients to tolerate painful emotions and build skills to reduce suffering. I approach clients’ vulnerabilities with deep respect and care while creating a space where they feel safe to show up exactly as they are, without judgment or expectation. As a social worker, I go above and beyond to ensure care is personalized to each client's unique needs while integrating humor, creativity, and curiosity into my work. Whether it’s navigating anxiety, depression, body image concerns, school, friendships, relationships, or other mental health challenges, I’m here to collaborate with you, build on your strengths, and create meaningful change that aligns with your values. My social work career began as a crisis counselor for the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, where I received extensive training in supporting individuals experiencing suicidal ideation and self-harm. I also had the privilege of supporting children and adolescents in an inpatient setting facing challenges related to substance use, suicide, and self-harm. In addition, I have experience as a therapist working with children and adolescents navigating depression, anxiety, ADHD, self-esteem concerns, body image challenges, life transitions, relationship difficulties, and other mental health concerns. I also enjoy working alongside parents and caregivers to strengthen communication, navigate challenges at home, and support growth outside of the therapy room while maintaining a trusting therapeutic relationship with clients. Outside of work, you can find me exploring Chicago, trying new restaurants, practicing yoga or Pilates, taking walks outdoors, painting or doing crafts, shopping, spending time with friends and family, playing with my dogs and cats, and watching some of my favorite television shows or movies. Choosing a therapist can feel daunting, and you do not have to be in “crisis” to deserve support. One of the greatest privileges of this work is getting to know people beyond their struggles. I feel honored to sit with you through difficult moments, help carry what feels heavy, and build a genuine connection.
