"Mental health problems don't define who you are. They are something you experience. You walk in the rain and you feel the rain, but, importantly, you are not the rain." — Matt Haig Hello, my name is Brian Rohloff and I have been a therapist in the Chicago land area for almost 15 years. I choose this quote to start my introduction because I feel it most reflects the person centered approach I bring to connecting with you as a client. As much as we are here together to work through relationship problems, life transitions, moments of loss or grief, we are also here to celebrate and enhance the resiliency of the whole person who is walking with these problems, but so, so importantly understanding that those struggles do not define us. I believe in a collaborative style of therapy in which we can share insights and build tools together to strengthen your ability to grow and remain intentional in your life. I have a significant and diverse amount of experience working with mental health. I started my career focused on family and couples counseling, and integrated that focus on the systems into my later work. I spent several years in community mental health in Chicago's Roger's Park, working with depression, anxiety, bi-polar, and schizophrenia in individual, couples, and group counseling formats. Most recently, I have been an OCD specialist for the past five years, and have experience working with not only Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, but also other compulsive disorders such as Trichotilomaia (hair pulling) and Excoriation (skin picking). This background allows me to utilize modalities of Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help reduce these symptoms and build powerful alternative behavior styles. I look forward to meeting you and figuring out together what the best way forward can be for you. And I congratulate you for coming to counseling, seeking the support of each other is one of the most important ways we can help ourselves change.
